X5 Retail Group tests new store format of hard discounters

MOSCOW, Mar 19 (PRIME) -- Russian retailer X5 Retail Group is now testing a new format of hard discounters, and will decide on opening the first store in December, CEO Igor Sherkhterman said in a conference call on Thursday.

“We are constantly considering new initiatives and opportunities in possible businesses. We have been looking at the market for the past four years, we have been estimating whether the market was ready for a format of a hard discounter,” he said.

“We are at a pilot stage now, and will make a decision whether to launch a store in the hard discounter format next year at the end of this year, in December.”
